Protocol
Ampicillin
Preparation of 5 mL of 100 mg/mL:
- Add 0.5 g of ampicillin into a 12 mL tube.
- Add 2.5 mL of ddH2O into the tube and mix gently by tapping the side of the tube.
- Add 2.5 mL of 100% ethanol and mix the tube again.
- Filter with a 0.22 μm syringe filter
- Aliquot out 1 mL into each of 5 microcentrifuge tubes.
- Label the tubes as 1000x ampicillin and write the date.
- Place tubes in the antibiotics box in the -20 °C freezer.
Note: Ampicillin stock will only be good for approximately 6 months.
Kanamycin
Preparation of 5 mL of 50 mg/mL
- Add 0.25 g of kanamycin into a 12 mL tube.
- Add 5 mL ddH2O into the tube and mix by shaking tube.
- Aliquot out 1 mL into each of 5 microcentrifuge tubes.
- Label the tubes as 1000x kanamycin and write the date.
- Place the tubes in the antibiotics box in the -20 °C freezer.
Note: Kanamycin tubes must be kept in the fridge after being removed from the freezer.
